Detailed Itinerary
We will pick you up from your hotel at 3:00 a.m. to begin our journey the south of Cusco. We will head to the community of Vinicunca (4600 m), the starting point of the hike. From here, we begin the ascent to Rainbow Mountain. The hike is of moderate difficulty and takes approximately two hours to reach 5100 m.
During the ascent, as we gain altitude, it is normal to feel your breathing become more agitated. The trail includes open sections where the weather can change quickly. Upon reaching the highest point, cold temperatures and strong winds are common. For this reason, it is important to wear warm clothing and maintain a steady pace.
Once at Rainbow Mountain (5100 m), you will be able to observe its natural colorful formations. The turquoise, red, orange, and brown tones are due to the presence of minerals. In addition, you will have views of Ausangate Mountain (6384 msnm), visible in the distance. This is an ideal spot for photography and to take in the surroundings.
Our guide will help you find the best angles for photos and manage your time at the site. You will also see llamas and alpacas along the route, as well as local people. Afterward, we will begin the descent to the lunch point. Finally, we will return to Cusco.
